How much protein does an adult need a day?

The calculator multiplies body mass in kilograms by 0.83 g, the EFSA population reference intake for healthy adults. For a 70 kg adult that is about 58.1 g of protein a day, and at 180 lb (81.6 kg) about 67.8 g. This is not a personal target for sport, pregnancy, breastfeeding or kidney disease, where needs can differ. The result is an informative estimate, so discuss your diet with a doctor.
