How do you work out the value of gold per gram?

The calculator first works out the pure gold mass as weight times fineness divided by 1,000, then multiplies it by the price per gram of pure gold that you enter, so the value depends on the price you checked. It does not fetch a current price from an exchange or a jeweller. For 10 g of 585 gold at BAM 200 per gram, the pure gold is 5.85 g, the value BAM 1,170 and, after a 5% buyback deduction, BAM 1,111.50. You can also enter the weight in troy ounces.

Frequently asked questions

What is a gram of 14 carat gold worth?

Gold of 14 carats is marked with a fineness of 585, meaning it contains 58.5% pure gold. One gram is worth 0.585 times the price of a gram of pure gold, so at an entered price of BAM 200 a gram is worth BAM 117 before any buyback deduction. Check the current price with a bank or a buyer.

Does the calculator show today's gold price?

No. You enter the price per gram of pure gold yourself, together with the date of that price, and the starting value is only an example. Buyers usually offer less than the pure content value, so enter a buyback deduction as a percentage. The final offer depends on the assay, fees and the buyer.
