About this result

Sections are idealized, without tolerances, coatings or rounded corners. This is not a load-capacity calculation or structural safety assessment.

Full disclaimer

How do you calculate the weight of metal?

Mass is volume times density. For a plate or rectangular bar the volume is length × width × thickness, and for a round bar or tube it is π/4 times the difference between the squares of the outside and inside diameters, times the length. Steel uses an approximate density of 7,850 kg/m³ and EN AW 6060 aluminium 2,700 kg/m³, or you can enter your own density. The result is a theoretical weight without tolerances or coatings, not a load capacity calculation.

METHOD

Formula and method

Mass = volume × density. Plate: L × W × T. Round section: π × (D² − d²) / 4.
