How do you work out a discount on a sale price?

The discount calculator multiplies the original price by (1 minus the first discount) and then by (1 minus the extra discount), because the second discount applies to the already reduced price. So 20% and then 10% off 100 KM gives 72 KM, an effective discount of 28%, not 30%. If tax is not included in the price, enter the rate, for example 17% VAT, and it is added to the discounted price.

METHOD

Formula and method

Price × (1−discount1/100) × (1−discount2/100). Discounts are not added together.
